The Spitzstein is a mountain in the Chiemgau Alps southwest of the Chiemsee and north of the Kaisergebirge . The German-Austrian border runs over its rocky summit with a cross and chapel between Bavaria and Tyrol . From the highest point there is a beautiful panoramic view of the alpine foothills and the surrounding mountains of the Chiemgau Alps and Bavarian foothills , with a clear view as far as the central Alps . According to German measurements, the height of the summit is 1596.2  m above sea level. NN and according to Austrian measurements at 1598  m above sea level. A. stated.

The Spitzstein summit is best reached from Sachrang via the Spitzsteinhaus ( 1252  m ) as an easy and popular mountain hike. Further climbs begin in Innerwald or Erlerberg . In July 2017, the via ferrata through the north face of the Spitzstein was renovated and reopened by the DAV Bergfreunde Munich section . The short via ferrata (approx. 100 m long with 60 m steel cable) can be climbed at your own risk and is not very difficult (category B). The easier normal route from the Spitzsteinhaus through the southern flank to the summit takes about an hour. This route is considered easy, but is partly steep and slippery when wet. The marked path first leads upwards over open terrain and then further up through a forest with some rocks to the summit.
