The bomb attack on the Bremen bridge ( Osnatel-Arena ) on September 10, 2011 overshadowed the third division soccer game between VfL Osnabrück and SC Preußen Münster . The detonation of a pyrotechnic charge in a former players' tunnel injured 33 people - including 17 police officers, two paramedics, an ambulance and five children. The Prussian-Münster supporter Juri C. had thrown this in the almost full stadium in Osnabrück from the guest block in the direction of the Osnabrück fans. He was later sentenced to five years' imprisonment for deliberately causing an explosive charge in unity with dangerous bodily harm .

background

There has been a great rivalry between VfL Osnabrück and SC Preußen Münster for a long time . The two cities are only 50 kilometers apart, so derbies between the two teams are always particularly explosive. After five and a half years without a clash, another encounter between the two teams took place on September 10, 2011 in the 3rd soccer league , which was classified as a risk game by the security forces due to the omens . There was also a rumor that ultras from VfL Osnabrück were in possession of a banner from the Münster ultra-group Curva Monasteria , which the group had lost on a train ride to the away game in Kaiserslautern and which ultras from 1. FSV Mainz 05 found and made friends with Ultras of VfL Osnabrück was passed on. Accordingly, the Münster group should have officially dissolved for this reason, among other things, but should still be active. According to the rumor, the VfL Ultras were supposed to present the banner as a provocation and humiliation for the people of Münster during the game. Among other things, the judgment of the LG Osnabrück of March 23, 2012 refers to this.

At the home game of the Prussians against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the 2018/19 season on February 1, 2019, a banner very similar to the lost one was presented in the guest block. This caused strong emotions in the home area, which was expressed in a storm of individual people and resulted in the game being interrupted. After the banner was presented, it may have been burned.

Sequence of events

Even before the Derby, there was the consideration in the Münster Ultra fans, it Osnabrück Ultras pay back the banner in anticipation of the presentation and before the kickoff of the game firecrackers to explode. This is evidenced by SMS messages between Ultra members and the later perpetrator, which among other things say: “Please. osna. kill. [...] ", to which he replies:" All right [...] all dead, all dead, all dead ... "and he later receives the message" tomorrow all osnabrück 3 meters below! "Or" Guerra "(translated: war) . In fan circles there was talk of "a big thing should go off".

At the same time, Ultra members from Poland from Münster obtained a firecracker of the type "Delova Rana 75 mm", a mixture of potassium perchlorate and aluminum powder . This is smuggled past the security forces in Osnabrück into the Bremen bridge and handed over to the later perpetrator. When the teams arrive at around 2 p.m., the perpetrator detonates the explosive device and then throws it out of the Münster standing block in the direction of the Osnabrück fans. At the same time, other ultra fans set off a smoke bomb to cover up and hold up T-shirts to cover up the perpetrator. However, the explosive device lands on the roll-up roof of the former players' tunnel, which separates both fan groups, and rolls down to the exit of the tunnel. At this point in time, there are numerous people in the tunnel, primarily police forces.

A policeman standing directly next to the explosive device tries to push it under an advertising medium placed in the passage, but cannot prevent it from exploding in the former players' tunnel and injuring 33 people. The injured suffered mostly explosion trauma - mostly with tinnitus - or open flesh wounds caused by the flying particles.

The game was kicked off unaffected by this event (1-0 win for VfL Osnabrück). During the course of the game, a banner with the inscription "Curva DB" was held up on the Osnabrück grandstand. This was an allusion to the Curva Monasteria flag lost on a Deutsche Bahn train .

Legal consequences

Numerous recordings from camera surveillance in the stadium were evaluated to determine the perpetrator . The images and anonymous information about the perpetrators were identified via the social network Facebook and the 24-year-old from Italy, Juri C., was arrested in Münster just six days after the crime . He is also assigned to the Münster ultra scene. He quickly admitted that he had detonated and thrown the explosive device in order to conquer the opposing stadium and intimidate the opposing fans, but did not want to injure anyone.

In the trial at the Osnabrück District Court , Juri C. was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the 10th Major Criminal Chamber on March 23, 2012 for deliberately causing an explosive explosion in an offense involving dangerous bodily harm (in 33 legally occurring cases). In addition, he had ten plaintiffs damages in the amount of 47,000 euros and pay damages afford. The court was convinced that the litter, supported by members of the officially dissolved Curva Monasteria, had been planned for a long time due to the previous history and that the perpetrator with the targeted throw in the direction of the Osnabrück fans approved the endangerment of the stadium visitors with potentially life-threatening injuries to stand out among the Münster ultra fans. When assessing the judgment, the Chamber also considered general preventive circumstances to be considered permissible and necessary. A request for revision before the Federal Court of Justice was withdrawn in August 2012, making the judgment legally binding.

In April 2013, a 15-year-old at the time of the offense was convicted of aiding and abetting intentionally causing an explosive explosion in unity with aiding and abetting dangerous bodily harm and for unauthorized handling of explosive substances. The Munster had bought the explosive device on the Internet and handed it over to the perpetrator before the game. He received a suspended two-year youth sentence, four weeks of permanent arrest ( warning shot arrest ) and 200 hours of community service.

In addition, both clubs were punished by the German Football Association for the incidents during the game : The DFB control committee placed SC Preußen Münster with an exclusion of its supporters for two away games in the 3rd division and one because of “the unsportsmanlike behavior of its supporters Fine of 7,000 euros ”. VfL Osnabrück was given an individual fine of 5,000 euros for the inadequate security service.
