Cities and Landscapes (Brockhaus)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cities and Landscapes was a monographic series of publications published in the GDR by the VEB Bibliographisches Institut Leipzig , which was continued from 1964 as VEB FA Brockhaus Verlag Leipzig. The series was not continued after 1968.

It was usually about 80-page booklets with adhesive binding and dust jacket in the format 11 cm × 18 cm, which were traded for 2 GDR marks . The booklet was printed by VEB Vereinigte Druckereien Magdeburg , whereby no high-quality paper was used. Only the photos contained in the booklets were printed on quality paper.

The content structure of the individual issues was similar, but not identical. Contrary to what is stated in the title of the series, not only cities but also villages were presented.

The edition of the booklets fluctuated between 5,000 and 10,000 copies.

The design of the dust jackets for the booklets was mostly done by Rudolf Uhlisch from Leipzig . Text illustrator was among others Klaus Gürgens from Mylau. For example, Christoph Georgi from Schneeberg (Ore Mountains), Wilhelm Schiefer from Ehrenfriedersdorf , Walter Reichel from Annaberg-Buchholz and the Deutsche Fotothek in Dresden were involved as photographers .
