Parish Church of St. Giles

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Egidius in Krensheim , a district of Grünsfeld in the Main-Tauber district , was built in the Baroque style in 1753 according to the plans of Balthasar Neumann and consecrated to St. Egidius .

history

The parish church of St. Egidius in Krensheim was rebuilt from scratch in 1753 according to the plans of the famous architect and artillery christian Balthasar Neumann, by the building expert brother Martin Sebald from the Oberzell monastery near Würzburg . The new church stands on the site of the previous building from 1579. The church was extended by eleven meters from 193 to 1938 due to lack of space, and it was also professionally restored. Due to the Second World War , the church forecourt could only be redesigned from 1950 to 1951, in the course of which the baroque stone cross was restored and a war memorial was created.

On May 24, 1983, the largest renovation in Church history began. During this the following measures were carried out: renovation of the tower with new slate cover, establishment of a church hall, plaster renewal in the exterior and interior with paint, new roofing of the church roof, repair of the windows and double glazing, renewal of the heating system, floor renewal from Krensheim shell limestone, new stalls with retention of the old chair cheeks, restoration of the entire interior as well as a renewal of the celebration altar and ambo made of Krensheim shell limestone.

The Agidius Church belongs to the pastoral care unit Grünsfeld-Wittighausen, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

Furnishing

The facade tower church contains a sandstone statue of the patron saint St. Agidius above the portal and the year 1753 otherwise shows the facade no other special features. The interior is single-nave, flat-roofed with a polygonal choir, as most baroque village churches in the Würzburg area have.

High altar

The high altar was carved by Johann Wolfgang von der Auwera and is marbled and heavily gilded. The altar canteen with tabernacle is framed to the right and left by tall rectangular column platforms with columns and pilasters and backed by niches. To the right and left of it there are two figures of saints (right: St. Rochus , left: St. Joseph). The altarpiece was painted by Johann Andreas Urlaub in 1777 and set in a gold frame, it is signed and dated. The picture shows the church patron St. Aegidius sitting in prayer in front of a column, next to him is a cross and a doe at his feet. Light falls on the saint from above, accompanied by a host of angels. In the lower part of the picture miter and staff are brought by angels as a sign of his abbot dignity. The entire altar structure is rounded off by an elaborate Rococo carving with angels, which is interrupted by a wreath of clouds in which a dove can be seen.

Side altars

The side altars were redesigned around 1900 by the sculptor Lieb from Würzburg, using the old figures (left: Maria , right: Herz Jesu statue).

pulpit

The pulpit was modified around 1900 by the sculptor Lieb from Würzburg. On the sound cover of the pulpit there is a figure of Michael (previously a statue of Moses).

Country house walls

On the right wall of the country house, St. Aegidius is shown with a miter and staff in a niche, next to him is a doe (this part could also have been made by Johann Georg Auwera). Above the niche with St. Aegidius St. Anthony of Padua can be seen with baby Jesus on a beech tree and a lily in his hand. On the left wall of the country house is St. Francis of Assisi can be seen with cross in hand. Below that, in a niche, St. Aloisius Gonzaga depicted in a choir skirt.

Tower walls

On the right wall of the tower house is St. Sebastian tied to a tree stump, pierced by arrows, only wrapped in a loincloth. On the left wall of the tower house is the cattle patron St. Wendelin in a shepherd's robe, with a shepherd's hat, shovel and book, two animal heads can be seen at his feet.

Gallery substructure

Below the gallery on the right side is St. To see Brother Konrad von Parzham in the vestments of the Capuchins with miraculous image from Altötting. A couple kneels in front of Brother Konrad and looks up at the "Black Madonna" . This element was created by Karl Bauer (Munich). Below the gallery on the left you can discover a statue of the Virgin Mary in a halo as a queen of heaven with a crown, scepter and the baby Jesus on her left arm.
