St. Albertus Magnus Church
Campanile

The Catholic Church of St. Albertus Magnus in Düsseldorf-Golzheim was built in 1938 on Kaiserswerther Strasse , inaugurated in 1939 as the first parish church in Golzheim, but was not finally completed until 1974.

history

Until the inauguration, the services took place in the St. Joseph Chapel on the corner of Kaiserswerther Strasse and Uerdinger Strasse. This chapel , built in 1660 and thus the oldest church in Golzheim at the time, had to give way to traffic planning in 1937.

The architect of the parish church St. Albertus Magnus was Franz Schneider . The church corresponds to the building type of a basilica and consists of a four-bay main nave and two three-bay side aisles. The building is made of brick.

Originally the church had a tower in the west that was integrated into the facade. According to the building permit, only 2000 kilograms of iron could be used during construction.

In 1974 the church was completed by the architects Hubert Brauns and Richard Janeschitz. The old tower was demolished and a choir and a windowless apse were added instead . The aisles were extended over the full length of the main nave. A campanile was built on the forecourt to replace the old tower .

The church is dedicated to the Catholic Saint Albertus Magnus . In the Catholic Church, he is regarded as a doctor of the church and the patron saint of scientists .

organ

The organ was built in 1954 by the organ builder Romanus Seifert & Sohn (Kevelaer). The cone store instrument has 19 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The playing and stop actions are electric. Thanks to the Robert Schumann University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf, a university-owned concert and teaching organ is currently being built in the Albertus Magnus Church. The organ, which has since been dismantled, was sold. After the technical assembly in December 2018, the sound work will take place.
