The Catholic parish church of St. Antonius in the town of Niederdrees , which belongs to the town of Rheinbach, dates back to a church building from the 13th century. The building at Kirchgasse 1 has been a listed building since 1994.

The patron saint of the church is Saint Anthony the Hermit . The core of the church is a chapel from the 13th century, which is now used as a choir and chancel . It was subordinate to the deanery of the provost of the canons of St. Georg in Cologne. A larger church space was built in front of the chapel in 1771. In 1781 the church tower was added to its western front. The single-nave quarry stone building is plastered, the roofs are covered with slate . The tower has three floors.

The choir has two and the nave three window axes. In 1970 the windows of the church were replaced. The glass painter Franz Pauli created geometric compositions in lead on antique glass . The symbols of the sacrament of the altar can be seen on a choir window : ears of wheat and grapes. The altar , the tabernacle and the pulpit were made by Heinz Gernot .

In 1978 the church was painted white. At that time a striking sundial was installed on the tower. Extensive exterior and interior restoration was carried out between 1982 and 1986. In 1988 a second bell was hung in the tower. At the beginning of 2007, the parish of Sankt Antonius Niederdrees was dissolved and merged with the parish of Sankt Agidius in Oberdrees . This amalgamated parish existed until the end of 2009; in 2010, the Niederdreeser Catholics were taken over into the parish of St. Martin Rheinbach.
