St. Dionysius is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Delbrück district of Bentfeld in the Paderborn district , North Rhine-Westphalia . Church and congregation belong to the Boke-Ostenland pastoral association in the Büren-Delbrück dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

Nothing is known about the first church in Bentfeld. In the period from 1650 to 1661, a chapel is mentioned that stood between today's parish hall and the Scherf farm. Their patron saints were Peter and Paul .

In 1779 the congregation was allowed to hold church services in the chapel in Bentfeld on Sundays and public holidays . At other times the Holy Masses were celebrated in the mother parish of St. Landolinus in Boke .

From 1851 a vicar lived in Bentfeld, whose maintenance was paid for by the political community in Bentfeld. From 1865 the parish was looked after by the Franciscans in Paderborn. In 1872 the friars left the monastery in Paderborn as a result of the Kulturkampf . It was not until 1887 that a Franciscan from Paderborn celebrated a Holy Mass on the solemn festival of All Saints .

In 1888 it was decided to build a new chapel. The building materials were provided free of charge and parishioners helped with the construction. On October 9th, the feast of St. Dionysius , the chapel was consecrated by Pastor Sagemüller from Boke . The interior furnishings, four vestments and the Vasa sacra were donated for the inauguration . In 1898 the chapel got an organ , a way of the cross and a pulpit . The young men of the community donated a statue of St. Joseph . On May 20, 1915, a donated tabernacle was erected, which remained in the church until 1955. In 1923 the church was enlarged and painted in 1926. In 1927 the cemetery was laid out; previously the burial grounds were in Boke. In 1928 the side altars were erected and in 1931 the chapel was given a new ring with three bells . The two largest bells were brought in on April 6, 1942 for armament purposes.

In 1941 the Franciscan responsible for Bentfeld was called up for military service, and the services were now held by the Vicar von Boke. In 1946 the priest returned and introduced the Corpus Christi procession , which is still common today .

Between 1947 and 1967 the church received a number of renovations and renovations. In 1972 the community acquired 24 pews from an old people's home chapel in Wiedenbrück . 1973 to 1974 the church was renovated again. On October 12, 1975, Auxiliary Bishop Friedrich Maria Rintelen consecrated the altar of the church and admitted relics of St. Zeno there. On May 18, 1977, Auxiliary Bishop Paul Nordhues donated the sacrament of Confirmation for the first time in Bentfeld.

From the first chapel two wooden statues of the apostles Peter and Paul have been preserved, which today stand in front of the tower pillar at the main entrance. There is also a church tower cock with the year 1658 and the smallest of the former three bells. This has the inscription SANCTA MARIA ORA PRO NOBIS ANNO MDCLV ( Holy Mary, pray for us! In 1655 ) and has been in the cemetery chapel since 1966 .

In 1955 the church received a new tabernacle. The war memorial was erected in November 1957.
