The Catholic parish church of St. Georg is located in Holzgünz in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The church is a listed building .

History and description of the building

The base of the tower and the core of the choir date from the 15th century . The nave , the expansion of the choir and the upper part of the church tower were completed in 1875. The tower is located on the south side of the church and is built on four sides with ogival windows and slotted windows. The basement of the tower contains a ribbed vault .

The high altar is a neo-Gothic structure. The altarpiece shows a crucifixion group in the manner of Johann Friedrich Sichelbein . The right side altar is also neo-Gothic and shows the Virgin Mary surrounded by angels in the altarpiece. The heavily overpainted altarpiece is marked with sickle bone pinxit and dates from the 18th century. The left side altar depicts St. George . In the church there is a way of the cross with 14 stations. On the side walls of the nave, as well as in the choir, there are twelve figures of the apostles . The figures of Peter and Paul are from around 1500 and probably originate from Ivo Strigel's workshop .
