St. George's University is a private international university in Grenada . It offers degree programs in medicine , veterinary medicine , public health (health care), Health Sciences ( Health Sciences ), nursing , arts and science and business administration .

St. George's University was established on July 23, 1976 by law of the Grenada Parliament . Classes in the School of Medicine began on January 17, 1977. St. George's University was founded on July 23, 1976 by a resolution of the Grenada Parliament . The name refers to the capital of Grenada. A Marxist military coup in 1979 swept away the democratically elected government of Eric Gairy . At that time the school only had 630 students. St. George's University has 65 buildings on 42 acres of land on a peninsula in the southwest corner of Grenada. A major expansion of the campus in the early 1990s resulted in the construction of 52 new buildings. The buildings are in the Georgian style .
