St. Gertrud (Dingelstädt)
The Catholic parish church of St. Gertrud is the focus of the rural town of Dingelstädt in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia . It bears the patronage of St. Gertrude of Nivelles .
history
Dingelstädt, which was first mentioned in a document in the 9th century, was likely to have had a village parish church from the start. It is not known whether it was this or a successor building that was expanded in 1607 and fell victim to a fire in 1688. A new church was built at the end of the 17th century with the inclusion of older wall remains, which had become too small again due to the population growth at the beginning of the 19th century. The current church was built between 1852 and 1855.
architecture
St. Gertrud is a neo - Gothic three - aisled hall church with groined vaults , massive octagonal columns, large tracery windows and a recessed 3/8 choir , which faces north due to the layout of the property. The total length is 50, the width 22, the height above the main portal 21 meters. The facade in the south is lavishly designed. Its triple vertical structure with two side gables reflects the three-aisled structure of the nave. The square tower stands above the portal, but only a provisional base storey with a flat tent roof has been constructed.
Furnishing
The interior is partly exposed to stone, partly brightly plastered. Sparing color contours emphasize the architectural structure.
In the chancel arch one depends Crucifixion . The tabernacle is flanked by the statues of St. Elisabeth of Thuringia and St. Boniface . On the pillars there are figures of the apostles as well as Saint Martin , the patron saint of Eichsfeld , and Saint Liborius as a reminder of the former membership of the Archdiocese of Paderborn .
On the pillars of the main nave are depictions of the apostles James, Philip, Bartholomäus and Matthew, as well as the apostle successors Martin (patron saint of Eichsfeld) and Liborius (saint of the diocese of Paderborn, to which the Eichsfeld belonged for a long time). These figures were made by the Munich sculptor Keil.
The right side altar is dedicated to St. Gertrud von Nivelles , the left side altar is dedicated to Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Stained glass window
The original stained glass windows from the 1880s have been preserved. The three choir windows show scenes from the life of Mary and the childhood story of Jesus in nine fields . The middle choir window was created in 1883; it shows the birth of Jesus, the adoration of the kings and Mary purification. The flanking windows were created in 1884. The right choir window shows the "engagement" of Mary and Joseph, the Annunciation and the Visitation. The left window of the choir shows the call to escape, the flight to Egypt and the 12-year-old Christ in the temple.
The eight nave windows illustrate the Beatitudes .

The organ with 44 registers on three manuals and pedal is one of the largest in Eichsfeld. It was built in 1932/33 by the company Feith, Paderborn, formerly Franz Eggert , and after various changes between 2006 and 2009, it was faithfully restored by the company Karl Brode, Heiligenstadt.
