The Church of St. Ignatius is a Catholic church dedicated to St. Ignatius of Loyola in Türkismühle in Saarland , a district of the community of Nohfelden , district of St. Wendel . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

With the establishment of the independent community of Türkismühle on September 1, 1946, which until then had been part of the village of Nohfelden, an independent church life developed. In 1947, the pastor Ignaz Schmitz from Sötern , who was responsible for Türkismühle, provided an emergency church with the erection of a former barrack of the Reich Labor Service on today's church car park , which was consecrated on August 1, 1948 in the presence of clergy and church representatives, as well as the Saarland Prime Minister Johannes Hoffmann .

On August 1, 1959, established the diocese of Trier , the Church of St. Ignatius , and was made in the same year on December 1, the elevation of the parish to Pfarrvikarie .

The construction of today's St. Ignatius Church took place in 1968 according to plans by the architect Hanns Schönecker . The inauguration took place on October 27, 1968.

Since September 1st 2011 the parish vicarie Türkismühle with the parishes of St. Martin in Neunkirchen / Nahe , Heilig Geist in Gonnesweiler and Rosenkranzkönigin in Sötern belong to the parish community of Bostalsee in the deanery of St. Wendel .

The Nohfelden-Türkismühle community school hosts the annual Advent concert in the church.

Church building

The church building is on Trierer Straße in the immediate vicinity of the cemetery of Türkismühle and forms a building ensemble with this and the Protestant church .

The exterior is characterized by the large tent-shaped roof structure. The plain and simple interior, in which the altar and tabernacle stele represent the focus as an eye-catcher, is square. Other items of equipment in the church are a stone baptismal font , a way of the cross made of metal and a belfry in which the bell from the emergency church, cast in 1877, hangs.

The organ of the church was built in 1994 by the Hugo Mayer company ( Heusweiler ). The instrument has 9 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal . The playing and stop action is mechanical.
