St. Jakob is the Protestant parish church in the Swabian town of Oettingen . The listed church belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Dean's Office in Oettingen .

history

The centrally located Protestant parish church of St. Jakob closes the castle square of Oettingen Castle in the east. When Oettingen became an independent parish in 1312 when it was separated from the original parish three kilometers away in Ehingen , the construction of the three-sided closed choir began , which was completed in 1326. In 1430 the nave could be completed. In 1461 the church tower stood in the northern choir corner up to the wreath (the year 1461 and coat of arms on the north wall of the tower). The octagon was not completed until 1565. A tower keeper lived there until the 1930s . Under Albrecht Ernst I, the barrel-vaulted hall building was decorated in a baroque style in 1681 . In the 19th century the ogival windows on the west facade were given a neo-Gothic design. In 1904 the polygonal stair towers in the west were renewed.

Others

Up until the middle of the 18th century there was a cemetery around the church, from which the grave slabs inside the church come, such as the epitaphs for Maria von Wildenstein , the Moser family and Elisabeth Moser . In front of the church, the Bavarian-Swabian Way of St. James begins at the statue of Jacob , the Franconian-Swabian Way of St. James leads past it.
