The Roman Catholic Church of St. Jakob in Wallgau in the Upper Bavarian district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen belongs to the Werdenfels deanery of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising . The Kuratiekirche is a listed building .

history

The first church in Wallgau was built in 1295. At the end of the 15th century, a hall church with a stone-vaulted choir extension in Gothic style was built on the same site . He was consecrated to James the Elder . The choir shows itself with net rib vault with tracery of the choir apex window. The baroque church tower with onion dome and today's sacristy were built in 1680. In 1683 the high altar was built. The church tower was renewed between 1723 and 1724. After several letters of protest to the bishop , the renovation work was finished in 1730. For a long time, the painted Stations of the Cross in the church remained the last new decoration. At the end of the 18th century the church became an independent parish . Various extensions and modifications followed in the 19th and 20th centuries. The last comprehensive interior and exterior restoration to date took place in 1988, followed by renewal of the technical systems.

organ

An organ from the 1950s was replaced in 2007 by an instrument from Orgelbau Škrabl, Rogaska Slatina (Slovenia). The consecration took place on May 17, 2007. The organ comprises 14 stops on two manuals and a pedal and has a mechanical play and stop action. The plant has the following disposition :

In the bell tower

The church bells that make up today's Wallgauer chimes date from 1980 and were cast in Passau .

In the adjoining cemetery there is also a death bell , which has been hanging on the funeral hall since 1981 and was cast in Munich in 1680 , and an honor bell.
