The listed Catholic parish church of St. Josef is located at Wolframstrasse 3 in the Ziegetsdorf district of Regensburg .

history

For the small number of parishioners it was difficult to get to the former parish church inprüfunging on foot. After the construction of a nearby emergency church (later St. Wolfgang ), the parishioners use the two churches. As a result, a uniform parish life was not possible. Hence the desire to build a church in this area arose.

On March 8, 1931, a church building association was founded. Joseph Schrembs donated a very substantial amount, which significantly advanced the planning. A suitable building site was quickly found: on the site of a former farmhouse, there was land purchased by a clergyman in the 1880s. He had a residential tower built there, which was later used in a modified form as a bell tower for the later church. After the plans were completed by Georg Berlinger in September 1931, the foundation stone was laid by Michael Buchberger on October 18, 1931 .

On July 17, 1932, the church was consecrated jointly by Michael Buchberger and Joseph Schrembs. On January 1, 1943, the church was elevated to a parish curate.

The population growth in the south of Regensburg in the post-war period made the expansion of the church necessary. Therefore, in 1956, the space shell was expanded by Friedrich Haindl. The building was expanded to the west by a new choir with a sacristy . The original east-facing church was thus aligned to the west. The church was consecrated again on November 12, 1956 by Michael Buchberger and at the same time elevated to a parish church .

In March 1976 the interior of the church was renovated. The figure of St. Joseph removed from the chancel and replaced by a cross hanging from the ceiling. The carved figure was placed on the right side wall of the main nave. From 1983 to 2003, numerous renovation works were gradually carried out. In the Ziegetsdorf parish church of St. Josef, Pope em. Benedict XVI. as a priest. Therefore the church was renovated again in 2005 on the occasion of the Pope's visit in the outside area.

The interior of the church was extensively renovated in 2017. Above all, combating the woodworm had top priority. In addition to the reinstallation of the building services, there was an artistic redesign of the chancel. The figurative jewelry was also returned to its original arrangement. After a construction period of over half a year, the church was reopened for the first Advent in the presence of Reinhard Pappenberger .

building

The church is a gable-independent hall building with a gable roof, retracted choir, choir flank tower, side aisle and extensions.

organ

In order to save costs, the aim was to acquire a used organ . Therefore an attempt was made to buy the interim organ from St. Wolfgang . The instrument was sold to Immenreuth during the negotiations . This instrument is no longer there today.

Another instrument from Regensburg could be purchased as a replacement. The organ is a two-manual instrument with a pneumatic action , built by Michael Weise , originally built for the Pius V hospital church in Regensburg.

Bells (three-part E major chimes: e'-g sharp'-h ')

The first bells were delivered by the Karl Hamm company on March 21, 1932, before the church was inaugurated , and installed the following day in the former residential tower, which had been raised by six meters.

Today's ringing consists of the following bells :

  • big bell (1899, Spannagl foundry in Regensburg)
  • middle bell (1877, Spannagl foundry in Regensburg)
  • small bell (1932, Karl Hamm in Regensburg)
