St. Kastulus in Unterschönbach

The Catholic parish church of St. Kastulus is a monument in Unterschönbach near Kühbach .

history

There are no records of the background of the patronage of St. Castulus . The church has always been owned by the St. Ulrich and Afra monastery in Augsburg . The nave of the church was built in the 13th century, while the choir and tower were built around 1459, according to an inscription.

Building description

St. Kastulus is a flat-roofed hall building with a retracted choir under a ribbed vault . In the northern gable roof tower hang three bells from 1482, 1516 and 1856. Romanesque round arch friezes can be found on the nave . The church is surrounded by a cemetery.

Furnishing

A painting fragment from the 15th century can be found on the northern wall of the choir. The altars were built around 1770/80. The high altar comes from Johann Anton Wiest from Schrobenhausen. The figure of St. Castulus, surrounded by a wreath of clouds, is from the 15th century. The figure on the left represents St. Florian , the one on the right again the St. Castulus. In the right side altar there is a painting of the patron, in the excerpt St. Francis is shown. St. Isidore is depicted in the left side altar , in the excerpt St. Anthony of Padua with baby Jesus. Next to the crucifix from the 18th century there are figures of Saints Nicholas and John Nepomuk , including figures of the 14 helpers from 1500. On the gallery, the 12 apostles and Salvator mundi are depicted in a relief from the 16th century . The font is from 1497.
