St. Catherine

The Catholic parish church of St. Katharina is a listed church building in Heinsberg , a village in the Kirchhundem community in the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

History and architecture

A chapel was first mentioned in the village in the 15th century. The parish was separated from the mother church in 1628 and has been an independent parish ever since .

The building was erected from 1767 to 1974 as a nave of three narrow cross-vaulted yokes. The choir is rectangular , drawn in and has a 3/6 end. The windows are long and arched. The small protruding tower probably comes from a previous church from the middle of the 17th century.

In 1974 the church was completely restored. The original paintwork has been restored. The wall surrounding the church square was demolished in 1976.

Furnishing

The furnishings come mainly from the time the church was built. It is held in rural Rococo with echoes of the beginning classicism . Some older figures were recast in 1952.
