The Catholic branch church of St. Maria in the municipality of Aichach in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia was formerly the palace chapel of the Blumenthal Order of the Teutonic Order . The church is located in the only surviving south wing of the castle, which originally consisted of four wings and was surrounded by moats. The church consecrated to Mary now belongs to the parish of Klingen . On Easter Monday the church is the destination of the traditional Emm exit .

history

Blumenthal Castle was built around 1568 as the headquarters of the Commandery. Until 1822 it stood in the southeast corner of the current complex. After the secularization , the former Kommende Blumenthal was sold and the later owner had the moated castle demolished except for the south wing.

Under the command of Johann Franz von Weichs , the church was redesigned in the Baroque style between 1719 and 1721 . His coat of arms is above the portal and in a stucco cartouche on the choir arch.

The stucco banding with angels making music and the frescoes by Melchior Steidl were made around 1720.
