St. Martin is the Roman Catholic parish church in the Schmidtheim district of the Dahlem community in the Euskirchen district (North Rhine-Westphalia).

The church is registered as a monument under number 77 in the list of architectural monuments in Dahlem (Northern Eifel) .

history

Today's Schmidtheim church dates back to the 12th century. The Romanesque bell tower is still preserved from this period . The old, presumably Romanesque, nave was replaced between 1720 and 1722 by a hall church with a three-sided choir in the Baroque style . The construction of the curly baroque church spire probably also fell during this time.

In 1964 and 1965, a much larger extension was added to the south wall of the church. The consecration of the new church took place on July 1st, 1967 by the Aachen bishop Johannes Pohlschneider .

Furnishing

Inside there is a baptismal font from 1792, a relief of St. Martin von Tours by the Aachen sculptor Josef Jansen and the former high altar of the new church from 1967. Today it serves as a side altar. The windows of the old building are works by the artist Wilhelm de Graaf from 1951 and the windows in the new building were created by Heinrich Geuer in 1965.
