history
As early as the 16th century there was a chapel in the evenings. At that time the place belonged to the parish of St. Clemens Berg . No further information is known about this place of worship.
At the beginning of the 1860s there were plans to build a new church. On March 17, 1864, the Vicariate General of the Archdiocese of Cologne , to which evenings belonged at the time, approved the construction of a new church. The foundation stone was laid on June 23, 1864 and just one year later, on November 13, 1865, the new single-nave church with a choir closed on five sides was consecrated. It was built from red sandstone and in the neo-Gothic style. From 1868 it was also possible to baptize in the evenings.
In 1871 a sacristy was added, which was expanded between 1921 and 1925. The church was also renovated during this period.
In 1968 the chancel was redesigned. A renewed renovation of the interior and exterior took place in 2004 and 2005.
Furnishing
In the interior there is a neo-Gothic high altar by the sculptor Hermanns from 1876. In addition, a crucifix from the 18th century can be seen in the chancel, which was taken over from the previous building, and a Way of the Cross from 1951/52. The branch community also owns a Baroque pulpit from 1663. However, it is located in the diocese depot in Wenau monastery . It probably also comes from the old chapel. Wilhelm Sonanini created the windows in 1923.
