The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Martinus is in Pingsheim , a district of the municipality of Nörvenich in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It is dedicated to St. Martin of Tours .

The church was first mentioned in a document from 1022: Archbishop Heribert donated “the little church to Pingsheim im Zülpichgau” to the Cologne Abbey of Groß St. Martin . It remained connected to the abbey like the associated ten courtyard until it was dissolved in 1802. It is also mentioned at the conclusion of the Pingsheim Peace on October 14, 1279 between the Archbishop of Cologne Siegfried von Westerburg and the House of Jülich .

The church has been a listed building since the beginning of the 20th century , because the demolition of the dilapidated building was refused in 1912 on the grounds that it was worthy of monument. Therefore, the church was thoroughly renovated and extended by a side aisle attached to the south . Only the stations of the cross , the confessional , six benches, a small altar, the altar cross and the eternal light lamp were taken from the old furnishings . The high costs of 22,000 marks were raised through collections and a loan . On October 5, 1913, the renovation and the extension were completed.

On June 17, 1918, the auxiliary bishop of Cologne consecrated the two altars. The parish of St. Martinus is the only parish in the Nörvenich parish that belongs to the Archdiocese of Cologne . In the district area, the parishes in Wollersheim and Embken also belong to the Archdiocese of Cologne.

In place of the bells confiscated during World War I , four new bells were consecrated in 1927. They were cast by the Humpert bell foundry in Brilon . The two larger bells were again confiscated on May 6, 1942 for armament purposes during the Second World War . The new bells were cast by the company Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock in Gescher / Westphalia and consecrated on October 29, 1954.

After the place came to Nörvenich in 1975, the church was entered on March 20, 1985 in the list of monuments of the Nörvenich community under No. 56.
