St. Michael in Brachstedt

St. Michael is a listed Protestant church in the Brachstedt district of the Petersberg community in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is listed as a monument under registration number 094 55042 . It belongs to the parish Hohenthurm in the parish of Halle-Saale district of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The church consecrated to St. Michael , a rectangular quarry stone building, dates from the beginning of the 13th century, as indicated by the Romanesque west transverse tower. The sound arcades have late Romanesque columns with carved capitals . The tower was probably given two pyramid helmets in the 17th century. The nave was lengthened and raised in the 15th century and provided with pointed arched windows, and the nave was further modified in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The interior of the church is equipped with a wooden flat hollow ceiling and a double-sided gallery from the 18th century.

The sacrament niche behind the altar on the east wall with an elaborately carved pinnacle frame dates from the second half of the 15th century.

The high-quality winged altar from the beginning of the 16th century, on loan from Schlaitz, is also significant . In the middle shrine are Mary with the baby Jesus between the Hll. Mary Magdalene and Peter shown as carved figures; on the painted wings inside the Hll. Barbara and Katharina , outside the Annunciation . On the predella you can see Christ as the Man of Sorrows and Mary as Intercessor, both as painted half-figures.

The crucifix above the shrine dates from the 18th century, as does the polygonal pulpit . The sound cover with acanthus bow crown is a work from the 17th century.

The organ from 1898 was in the Zörbiger workshop Wilhelm Rühlmanns made.

War memorial

The war memorial for the fallen soldiers of the First World War in Brachstedt, Wurp and Hohen is a stele that is decorated with an iron cross in the upper area and with a wreath relief in the lower area .
