description

A Romanesque chapel already existed before 1294 , which was rebuilt in 1320 to its present form. 1660–65 the church was overhauled, with its current roof turret on the nave . In 1757 this hall church was changed. It has a slightly indented rectangular choir . The nave and the choir are covered with gable roofs. The roof turret has a slate-covered bulbous hood . In the belfry a hanging bell from the first half of the 14th century. It is decorated with a relief showing the adoration of the baby Jesus . During the renovation in 1865, single-storey galleries were built into the nave . The church furnishings also come from this year . This includes a simply built, free-standing pulpit altar. A picture showing Jesus Christ in prayer was added under the pulpit . Above the pulpit is an ox-eye with a four-snow . Below is an old window from the Romanesque period. To the right and left of the choir there are still two sacraments .

the famous Burgwitzer Altar

In the choir on the left there is still a not very old crucifix and the risen Christ in baroque fragments , which originally belonged to another altar. The baptismal font is neo-Gothic . On the back wall of the nave hangs a large display board with an image documentation of the carved Gothic altar from the Saalfeld school (around 1510), which was removed in 1865 and brought to Weimar in 1868 . He can currently be seen in the Marienkirche (Mühlhausen).

The small organ stands in the wooden prospect on the horseshoe-shaped gallery . It has six registers , divided between a manual and a pedal , and was built around 1860 by an unknown organ builder .
