The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Michael is the village church of Heustreu , a community in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld . Heustreu is part of the parish community "Um den Michaelsberg". The church is one of the Heustreu monuments and, together with the churchyard fortifications and a statue of Mary in the churchyard, is registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-6-73-133-32 .

history

The parish of Heustreu was detached from the parish of Hollstadt in 1587 by the Würzburg bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn , which in turn had emerged from the original parish of Brend . The steeple is the oldest part of the church. It was built in the 14th century and increased around 1600. The nave and the choir were built between 1956 and 1957 according to plans by the Würzburg cathedral builder Hans Skull .

description

The church is a three-aisled nave facing west with a choir just closed. It has a gable roof that flattens out over the aisles. The church tower stands east in the central axis of the nave. It is a Julius Echter tower with a pointed helmet and pointed-arch sound windows with tracery .

Furnishing

Only one altar is set up in the church . There is a large mural behind the altar. The church also contains a 15th century Madonna. The organ is attached to the east wall. The church chimes include five bells.
