St. Michael (Michelsberg)
The pilgrimage chapel St. Michael is located in the Eifel part of the Ahr Mountains on the Michelsberg near Mahlberg , a district of Bad Münstereifel in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Euskirchen . The Roman Catholic chapel , built around 1500, is a listed building , and the wooded basalt knoll Michelsberg is the highest point in the Bad Münstereifel city area.
The chapel was built of plastered quarry stone with stone framing. Their roofs are covered with slate . The late Gothic choir with net vault was created around 1500. The transverse rectangular nave with a western tower in front from the late 17th century was renewed after a fire in 1857 to 1860. The tower's observation deck and helmet were created in 1934/35.
On the south side of the choir, a sacristy and a saint's house with a burial group were added in 1733 . One floor of the priest's house on the tower side, built in 1699, has been preserved. On this side there is also an outside staircase that leads to the portal of the church.
