The Catholic parish church of St. Nikolaus in Gansheim , a district of the Marxheim community in the Donau-Ries district in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , was originally built in the Middle Ages . The church consecrated to St. Nicholas is a protected architectural monument .

location

The church is located in the east of the village at Kirchplatz 4 in a walled cemetery. The Catholic cemetery chapel for Our Lady of Sorrows , which is also a listed building, is located on the site .

history

The choir tower , which is essentially medieval , was renewed in 1727 and extended to the west. Extensive interior renovation work took place in the 1980s.

architecture

The flat-roofed hall building has a recessed, rectangular choir . The tower, which is essentially medieval, is crowned by a pointed helmet. The frescoes in the church are from 1911/12.

Furnishing

The baroque altars date from 1730/40. The central motif of the high altar is a carved figure of the church patron St. Nikolaus, the group of figures in the excerpt depicts the coronation of Mary . On the side of the wall are good carved figures from the Rococo with St. Florian and St. George. In the left side altar there is a wooden sculpture of Our Lady , which is dated around 1430. The pulpit was built around 1700. A fragment of the epitaph for Thomas von Strahlfels († 1601) has been preserved in the church.
