History and architecture

View through the church

The first church was consecrated in 1087 by Archbishop Sigwin of Cologne . The Romanesque west tower , which is still preserved today, comes from this church . In connection with the granting of parish rights, a new building was built in 1296. A stepped hood was placed on the tower in 1682 under the direction of Hans von Mellrich. The sacristy was added in 1834 and renewed in 1934.

The former provost church was incorporated into the Grafschaft monastery until 1803 . The baroque hall of four yokes with a 3/4 choir closure was built from 1749 to 1750 by Dietrich Hermann Röper. The simple plastered building is structured by pilasters and cornice in green sandstone. The high windows are arched, the simple Gothic portal is now in the south wall of the tower. The baroque south portal is marked 1749. The tower hall is open to the nave with a pointed arch. In the hall there are groin vaults with crown rings over strongly stepped wall pillars.
