The Catholic parish church of St. Pankratius and Margarita in Niederheckenbach , a district of Heckenbach in the Ahrweiler district ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), was built in 1828/29 and is located on Kirchweg 2. The church is a protected cultural monument .

history

At the latest at the beginning of the 14th century there was a church in Niederheckenbach, because it is documented that Gerhard von Landskron appointed the priest of this branch church of the Königsfeld parish . In 1668, Heckenbach appears as a separate parish.

The current church was built in the years 1828/29, because the old church, which stood further below next to the rectory, had become dilapidated . The cemetery, which is still in use today, is located by the church.

In 1938 all residents of the village were evacuated in order to set up the Ahrbrück air force training area. The cleared church fell into disrepair and was only restored in 1955/56, because in 1950 the area began to be repopulated with expelled farmers from Warmia .

architecture

The east-facing church has a west tower that has the portal of the building. The hall structure with a drawn-in, three-sided closed choir and attached sacristy corresponds to the type of a late baroque church in the region. Inside the room is covered by a wooden vault with cross ribs on pilasters .
