Church of St. Peter and Paul in Hausen

The Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Hausen , a district of Dillingen on the Danube in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , was built at the end of the 19th century on the site of a previous Baroque church in the neo-Gothic style. The church is dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul .

history

Hausen is the seat of an old parish , for which a separate pastor is documented as early as 1299. From 1542 to 1546 and from 1552 to 1616 Hausen was Protestant . In 1634 the old church was devastated and rebuilt between 1634 and 1650. In 1696/97 the building was completely rebuilt, which was re-consecrated in 1698 by Auxiliary Bishop Johannes Eustache Egolf von Westernach . The tower was built after 1700. This church was decorated with ceiling paintings by Johann Anwander in 1759 . It had two Romanesque columns decorated with capitals as spolia . In 1883/84 the church was demolished and replaced by a new building according to the plans of the Augsburg district building department assistant Georg Maxon. In 1896 the consecration of the new church took place. The brick building has been plastered since the exterior restoration in 1973 . The last interior renovation took place in 1980/81.

Choir

architecture

The tower rises in the northern corner of the choir. It consists of a square base and an octagonal structure, which is covered with a pointed helmet over gables . The bell storey is supported on the sloping sides by buttresses and is pierced by high, pointed arched sound arcades .

The nave has a single nave . A broken choir arch opens to the retracted, three-sided closed choir , which is raised by two steps. The nave and choir are spanned by a neo-Gothic reticulated vault. The western end is formed by a gallery resting on four wooden posts with a wood-carved parapet , to which two side staircases lead.

In the basement of the tower there is a Roman consecration stone with an inscription, which probably comes from Faimingen . On the buttress of the choir there is a cuboid with heavily weathered leaf decoration from the early 13th century, a spoil that probably comes from the first church.

Leaded glass window

The walls of the choir and nave are pierced by large pointed arched windows with tracery . The side stained glass windows in the choir depict St. Joseph and Mary with the baby Jesus on the left and St. Ulrich and St. Afra , the patrons of the Augsburg diocese , on the right . The middle choir window shows the scene of the handing over of the keys to Peter, the patron saint of the church.

Furnishing

  • The wooden crucifix on the south wall of the nave dates from the 1st quarter of the 16th century.
