The Church of St. Peter and Paul is the main church in the Erfurt district of Tiefthal . It belongs to the Evangelical Church District Erfurt . The building is a listed building .

history

The late Gothic church has largely been preserved in its original form. According to the building inscription, it was built between 1469 and 1510 as a branch church of the Kühnhausen church by the builders Hans Nust and Thomas Rose above the village in the middle of a cemetery instead of a previous building. The three-storey tower was given corner blocks. It has a groin-vaulted hall on the ground floor. The second floor, set off by a strong cornice, has large pointed arched windows with tracery and includes a bell house. The ogival windows in the hall also have Gothic tracery. The ogival main portal is located on the south side, and above it is the gallery access, which is separately accessed by a covered external staircase. Inside, a pointed arched sacrament niche has been preserved, framed with crabs and pinnacles and crowned with a finial .

Ladegast organ

In 1595 the tower was given an Italian hood. In 1797 another renovation took place in which the existing baroque dome of the tower with the clocks was erected. In 1898 a stylish restoration took place. In the same year, today's organ was installed by Friedrich Ladegast in Weißenfels. The cost of the neoclassical-style instrument with 14 registers and cone chests - registered under opus 216 as the master's late work - amounted to 4,000 marks. In autumn 2005 the organ was restored to its original condition for almost € 42,600.

Another restoration took place in the mid-1980s. The pulpit stairs and sacristy were removed. Since 2014, the church has been the venue for the "Summer Concerts in Erfurt Village Churches" project run by the Erfurt Chamber Music Association . The concert always takes place in connection with the Tiefthal art festival.
