St. Peter to the Chains (Elze)
St. Petrus zu den Ketten is the Catholic Church of Elze in the Hildesheim district . It is located at Schmiedetorstraße 24 and belongs to the parish of St. Joseph with its seat in Gronau , in the Alfeld-Detfurth dean's office of the Hildesheim diocese .
It wasn't until 1936, long after Gronau and Mehle , that Elze , which had been evangelical since the Reformation , got a Catholic church again. It was a small chapel that was consecrated on August 15, 1936 by Bishop Joseph Godehard Machens .
In 1953 Josef Fehlig extended it to its present form: a white plastered hall church in the shape of an elongated octagon with a square bell tower and a rectangular chancel . On October 25, 1953, it was consecrated by Auxiliary Bishop Johannes Bydolek. The furnishings were renewed after the liturgical reform.
The Petrus - patronage ties in with the old, since the Reformation Lutheran Elzer at church that of Charlemagne had been founded as a bishopric and Louis the Pious that provision of Hildesheim had to give. The chains mean those that the apostle left behind when he was liberated from the Jerusalem dungeon ( Acts 12.6.7 EU ) and that are venerated in San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome (feast day August 1st).
As of July 1 of 1957 Elze an independent parish (Kuratiegemeinde), previously Elze was a St. Mary's to the parish in flour belonging Pfarrvikarie .
Since December 1, 2002, the church has belonged to the then newly founded Deanery Alfeld-Detfurth, previously it belonged to the Deanery Alfeld-Gronau. Since November 1st, 2006 the church in Elze belongs to the parish of St. Joseph. Today the preservation of the church, which is around 97 meters above sea level , is supported by the St. Petrus in vinculis Elze-Mehle association.
