The Roman Catholic branch church St. Sebastian (Hochdorf) is located in the district of Hochdorf von Duggendorf in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg in Bavaria (Leonhardigasse 5).

history

The former chapel of Hochdorf Castle was donated in 1714 by the then owners Johann Wilhelm and Katharina Elisabeth Teuffel . The Church Patronage of St. Sebastian - he is next to St. Rochus a so-called plague saint - refers to the fact that the plague raged in Hochdorf in 1713 as well . In Hochdorf the custom has also survived that, based on a vow made in 1713, three Hochdorf residents still make pilgrimages to one of the Trinity churches on the Eichelberg, the Miesberg near Schwarzenfeld and to Schmidmühlen ; the invocation of the Trinity was also common to ward off the plague.

The chapel was maintained by the respective lords of the court until the end of the rule of the court.

Construction and equipment

The church is an eaves hall building with a gable roof . The roof turret has an onion hood .

Until 1952 the chapel was 10 meters long and 8 meters wide, it had a narrow sanctuary and a sacristy . Since the number of believers had increased significantly, it was decided to expand the church. The length was doubled (while the width remained the same). A look at the gallery resting on wooden beams shows ceiling paintings from the time of construction, which were reworked in 1914 by the Munich painter Wilhelm Geromiller.

The painting of the ceiling from 1952 originally came from the Parsberg painter Walter Scheidemandel, but since a large part of the ceiling fell in 1980, his work was lost. In 1994, the professor for art education at the University of Regensburg Hermann Leber from Kallmünz created a new ceiling fresco . It shows the scene of the Descent from the Cross , when Christ is lowered to Mary and Mary Magdalene .

The carved altarpiece dates from 1714. It shows St. Sebastian with the fourteen emergency helpers . The altar has two twisted columns and acanthus leaves next to them . The extract represents St. Florian . On the side there are still pictures of Maria Immaculata and the cattle patron St. Leonhard .

Below the gallery you can find the donor's inscription and the coats of arms of Johann Wilhelm and Katharina Elisabeth Teuffel. The inscription refers to the time of the plague at that time and the construction of a village well from 1708 to serve the next .
