The Evangelical Church of St. Ulrich is a listed church building in Alach , a district of Erfurt in Thuringia . The community belongs to the Erfurt parish in the Evangelical Church of Central Germany.

History and architecture

In the place of the current building there was a previous church in the 12th century, which was demolished before 1405 and replaced by another in the same year. The tower also dates from this period. A nave with a three-sided choir closure was built according to an inscription in 1510 and destroyed by fire in 1864. The building was fundamentally rebuilt in 1865 and extensive renovation was carried out in 1991. The interior is kept in a uniform neo-Gothic style, the roof structure is open. The tower has a groin vault on the ground floor . There is an ogival sacraments niche on the west side . The double gallery is all around. The equipment is supplemented by a pulpit and an organ .

Renovations after 1991

Extensive renovation work was carried out between 2001 and 2003 under the direction of the architecture firm Smits und Partner. The structure of the ship and the tower was structurally secured, the damage caused by sponge to the roof structure was repaired. The tent roof construction from the 1970s was renovated in 2006. The slate covering was broken off and the joists, sleepers, ceiling beams and rafters were renovated. Necessary wood protection work was carried out and the roof was newly boarded and covered.
