The church from the southwest

The St. Ulrich Church is the Protestant village church of the Thuringian town of Büchel in the Sömmerda district and belongs to the Weißensee parish in the Eisleben-Sömmerda church district. The predecessor church of the same name stood on the other side of the Lossa in the cemetery and was burned to the ground in 1833 during a night thunderstorm. With its closed ensemble in the style of classicism , the new church is one of the special church buildings in Thuringia.

location

The church is located in the middle of the village on the north side of the village road from west to east. The tower that characterizes the townscape stands in the west of the nave. The tip of the weather vane on a tower lantern rises 36 m above the ground.

history

The church was designed, drawn and built over a pile foundation under his direction by Roßleben's building inspector Schierlitz between 1834 and 1837 . The existing village pond in the village was filled in and the building site was laid 3 feet above the terrain. Nevertheless, the pile foundation was obviously necessary. In March 1835 the work begun in December 1834 was continued, so that on April 9, the foundation stone could be formally laid in a ceremony in the eastern gable in the corner to the south. The inauguration took place on Reformation Day, October 31, 1837. The cost was 8,764 thalers. Beyond the Lossa flowing north of the village, where the cemetery is still located today, stood the old church, which was so badly damaged by the annual floods of the Unstrut (backwater) and the Lossa that it became increasingly damaged. It burned down on the night of June 26th to 27th, 1833 during a thunderstorm for dubious reasons. In October / November 1834 the ruins of the old church were torn down. For the 100th anniversary, extensive renovation work was carried out in 1937, and from 1990 the church roof, the interior ceiling and the bells were repaired.

Furnishing

The interior of the church is well preserved and shows a classical style from the time it was built. There are plaster damage on the facade.

organ

The organ in need of restoration comes from August Witzmann from Stadtilm . The organ from 1837 has 28 stops , 23 of which are sounding parts , and 4 side stops . The console with a pedal mechanism has two manuals . The prospectus was created by the sculptor Elle from Stadtilm or Ilmenau in the classicism style with two rectangular pipe fields flanked by two flat, round towers. The pulpit , altar and baptismal font , all also from 1837, come from him.

tower

The tower has a square plan. The masonry consists of rubble stones from the decorations up to the bell storey . On top of it stands an externally plastered half-timbered construction , which, except on the west side, carries plastered blind arcades . The slate hood shows a rural style of the region . On top is a weather vane , the gold-plated tower button of which was renewed in 1995. The bronze bell that still exists today was cast by the Ulrich brothers in Laucha in 1849 .

The old tower clock from the company Weule from Bockenem in the Harz Mountains was replaced in 2004 by a modern radio-controlled master clock.

Nave

The spacious high hall is lit from the outside through eight large arched windows . The portal risalit in need of restoration with wall pillars and half-columns faces the village square on the side of the nave opposite the tower and forms a special ornament of the church building. The two-storey gallery , painted with white glue paint , encloses the monumental organ prospect to the west. Sparing use of color gives the church a bright, friendly atmosphere. It is planned to use the requested funds to repair three windows of the nave by the local anniversary in 2015.

Like the tower, the nave, too, has quarry stone masonry with lime mortar. Blue slate was used for the roofing instead of bricks, which should guarantee a longer durability and a better appearance.
