The St. Vitus cemetery chapel is a monument in Bachern near Friedberg .
history
The St. Vitus cemetery chapel is the remains of the choir of the former parish church . The church was probably built in the first half of the 13th century and was dedicated to St. George . In 1443 the patronage was changed to St. Vitus . At this time structural changes were made, such as the groin vault that is still preserved today . The church was badly damaged in the Thirty Years War and repaired in 1706. In 1831 it was decided to tear down the nave and the tower and build a new building ( St. Georg ). In 1866/67 the interior of the chapel was redesigned. It was restored from 1983 to 1985.
Building description
St. Vitus is a square hall building with a round roof turret on a square base. The roof is hipped to the east . There is a transverse oval window on the east side. Those on the south and north sides are provided with round arches. The sign and the extension in the north are more recent.
Furnishing
The choir altar is from around 1775/1785. In the writing niche above the tabernacle a standing Madonna with Christ Child from the late 15th century (but modern caught ) by an unknown artist. The Christ on the scourge column from 1762 is by Johann Caspar Öberl .
