The listed Roman Catholic branch church St. Wendelin in the Ullersberg district of the Upper Palatinate municipality of Ursensollen is entered in the list of architectural monuments of Ursensollen by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation (monument number D-3-71-154-30). The chapel belonging to the parish Hohenkemnath is dedicated to the patronage of St. Wendelin , which is celebrated every year on October 20th.

history

Is called Ulreichperg in the oldest Urbar the convent Kastl between 1334 and 1338. 1358 is an here Henry the Rorensteter of Vlreichsperg in the Kastler dispensing books mentioned. In the 18th century, Ullersberg still belonged to the "small office" of the Kastl monastery.

The farmer Hans Koller from Ullersberg wrote to the diocese of Regensburg in May 1735 that he had already had a Wendelin chapel built on its property in 1726 on the occasion of a rampant cattle epidemic. However, it would only offer space for eight people, so that the majority of the faithful would have to stand in the open air during the evening prayers and would be particularly affected by rain and snow. He wanted to enlarge the chapel so that there was room for 24 people; he also wants to donate capital from which the chapel can be preserved in the future. He asked the bishop for consent, as the pastor of Hohenkemnath did not want to give this. As a result, there was an exchange of letters between the pastor Johann Caspar Dorner, who feared a decline in the number of visitors in his parish church , and the consistory of Bishop Johann Theodor of Bavaria , whereby the episcopal consistory approved the construction on the condition that the maintenance in the future is secured. In February 1737, Koller asked for the benediction of his chapel, which had been enlarged to 25 Schuh in length and 13 in width, and for permission that services could also be held here. Both the electoral officials in Amberg and then the diocese of Regensburg agreed to his request, especially since the farmer made a donation of 150 guilders for the chapel.

During the secularization of 1803, the chapel narrowly escaped demolition, because actually, according to the orders of the Bavarian Minister Maximilian von Montgelas, all superfluous churches were to be closed and all shrines torn down. At that time, the owner of the chapel was the farmer Johann Augsberger. The chapel has been owned by the municipality of Ursensollen since the territorial reform of 1971.

Construction

The chapel is a plastered, solid structure closed on three sides with a gable roof and an onion roof turret over the altar.

Interior

The church has an altar with acanthus vines adorned with columns . The main page shows St. Wendelin, the side pictures St. Leonhard and St. Erhard . St. Notburga , patroness of the maidservants and servants, and St. Isidore , famous for his natural history work De natura rerum , are depicted on the walls .

The church interior is closed off by a wooden ceiling with strips.

In 1740 the chapel received a new way of the cross and again Johann Klein from Vienna designed one.

In the church there are numerous votive tablets with which the rural population expressed their thanks to St. Wendelin as cattle patron for being liberated from emergencies; the oldest is from 1727.
