history

In 1820 Leonhard Ullrich from Palatinate founded a trading business in Maikammer , which he later passed on to his sons Anton and Franz. In the economic crisis from 1850 onwards, Anton Ullrich made folding rules . In 1886 the spring joint of the folding rule was patented.

Gustav Ullrich , a nephew of Anton Ullrich , founded the meter factory in Annweiler in 1889 and a year later, together with one of his brothers, the company Franz Ullrich Söhne , an enamelling and metal works. The starting point for the two companies were two mills that Gustav Ullrich had bought and expanded to include plants in Bellheim , Albersweiler and Chalon-sur-Marne ( France ). The latter was expropriated after the First World War. In 1923 Gustav Ullrich was appointed secret councilor of commerce .

1948 Günther Leipold , grandson of Gustav Ullrich , Managing Partner and CEO of meter factory , in addition to meter rods and spirit levels and plumb lines sold. By concentrating on the market, a consistent brand policy, new property rights and the continuous improvement and expansion of production, Stabila became the market leader in Germany and Europe. The company acquired in 1952 the patent for acrylic glass - dragonfly with whom he made his breakthrough into the market leader in Germany. Spirit levels were initially only made of wood, then also of die-cast aluminum and then also of aluminum profiles.

1954 reported Stabila a patent for a tape measure from fiberglass - composite on. From 1979, the vials were poured into the profile body of the striking yellow-colored spirit levels, which ensures the precision of the measurement. Just one year later, Stabila was a market leader in Europe in the field of spirit levels and tape measures / folding rules.

In 1993 Stabila began manufacturing rulers in Haluzice, Czech Republic . Until 1999, the company outsourced the labor-intensive scale production to Haluzice in a process lasting several years. The manufacture of precision tools remained in the main factory in Annweiler. The manufacture of laser measuring devices began here in the mid-1990s .
