The Stadler Wink (proper spelling WINK for " w andelbarer i NNOVATIVE N ahverkehrs- K urzzug") is an originally as Flirtino designated by the Swiss railway manufacturer Stadler Rail constructed for regional traffic and manufactured low-floor - multiple unit , which for two power drives with diesel , electric - or battery operation is suitable.

technology

The Wink was developed primarily for secondary lines with a smaller number of passengers and replaces the GTW articulated multiple unit no longer fully compliant with crash regulations . Like a two-part GTW, the multiple unit consists of a traction middle section and two end cars. In contrast to the GTW, the traction part and the end car are supported together on Jacob frames . As with Flirt, the end bogies at the driver's cabs are driven . In contrast to the Flirt, the drive equipment is not located above the powered bogies, but in the traction center section. This is also equipped with the components for the energy supply and the auxiliary systems .

In contrast to the two-part Flirt, the concept is suitable for two-power drives with diesel and battery operation, for purely electric operation with additional batteries, for thermal drive with diesel or vegetable oil and for fuel cells . The Wink is available with long and short end cars; the addition of a middle car as in the GTW is not provided. The end cars can be equipped with one to four pairs of doors. A two-part wink offers seating for up to 150 people, which is roughly the capacity of a three-part GTW. Stadler Rail offers the Flirt to railways that need larger trains. Thanks to the aluminum composite construction , the axle load is less than 18 tons.

Customers and operators

Arriva Nederland

The launch customer Arriva Nederland ordered 18 Wink trains in 2017, which are powered by vegetable oil from Deutz diesel engines. End car B is equipped with one pair of doors, end car A with a toilet and two pairs of doors. The additional batteries for storing braking energy make it possible to switch off the diesel engines during longer stays in train stations. The multiple units will be used between Leeuwarden and Groningen as well as in the provinces of Friesland and Groningen from 2020 . After the partial electrification of the Leeuwarden – Groningen line , the diesel engines are expected to be replaced by powerful batteries in 2025. The energy then comes from the overhead line with 1500 volts direct current and the batteries on the non-electrified sections of the route. The fleet complements the 51 Arriva GTWs , which are also to receive batteries for storing braking energy.
