Nur-Sultan light rail

The Metro only Sultan is currently in planning and partly under construction light rail the Kazakh capital only Sultan (ehem. Astana). Operational implementation

The light rail network, which is partly laid out in an elevated position, is intended to become an additional attraction in the city. The capacity of the light rail is designed for 10,000 passengers per hour. The forecast average speed is no less than 25 km / h. Overall, operational management is planned every 7/8 minutes or at shorter time intervals. According to the changed plans, the light rail will be implemented in the wide-gauge width (1520 mm) common in Kazakhstan. The distance between two stops is between 550 and 770 m and is therefore much shorter than with urban rapid transit or metro systems.

Vehicles and technical equipment

The vehicles , the technical equipment of the light rail, the passenger information system and the ticket sales system are supplied by the French railway manufacturer Alstom . Alstom will initially deliver 12 multi-part articulated vehicles of the " Citadis " type. A total of 49 trains are to be used on tram line 1. The railcars will be adapted to the climatic conditions.

The light rail project is financed in a PPP cooperation model by both private and public shareholders. The city of Astana provided EUR 24.3 million and the federal government EUR 64.7 million for the first construction phase of light rail line 1. The second phase of construction will be financed with funds from the federal government and the Asian Development Bank.
