Staffeldt , historically also Staffelde or Staffeld is the name of an old, originally Altmark , early in Mecklenburg outspread, and later in Prussia and Denmark servants noble family .

history

The headquarters of the same name, Staffelde, of this knightly family is not far from Osterburg in the Altmark. The Staffeldt are documented here in the years 1208 and 1215.

In 1274 the family was already mentioned on Hökendorf near Greifenhagen .

In the 13th or beginning of the 14th century the Staffeldt moved to Mecklenburg, where they owned the Neuenkirchen estate for more than three centuries from 1308 at the latest . In 1523 they belonged to the undersigned families of the Union of Estates . In addition, the family in the Stargarder Land was able to take possession of the Brunn , Gadebehn , Gahlenbeck, Genzkow , Glocksin , Golm , Gördensdorf, Göteband, Grammentin , Rittmanshagen and Wanzka estates at times and in some cases to hold them in their possession until the previous century.

The Staffeldt came to Denmark even before the 18th century .

There individual relatives u. a. hold prominent positions in the military, such as:

  • Adolph Friedrich von Staffeldt (* 1660; † 1735), major general of the royal body dragons
  • Christian Friedrich von Staffeldt (* 1671; † 1741), colonel and commander of the royal grenadier corps
  • Bernhard Ditlef von Staffeldt (* 1753; † 1818), lieutenant general and bearer of the Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog

Some of the family's sons also served as officers in the Prussian army in the 18th and 19th centuries .

The family coat of arms shows three silver knives with golden handles on top of each other in the blue shield . On the helmet with blue and gold covers three silver ostrich feathers.
