Stair is a hamlet in the west of the Scottish Council Area East Ayrshire or in the traditional county of Ayrshire . It is located around eleven kilometers east of Ayr and south of Kilmarnock on the left bank of the Ayr , which at this point marks the border with the neighboring Council Area South Ayrshire .
history
In the late 16th or early 17th century, a tower house was built in Stair. It was one of the possessions of the Earls of Stair , who had it expanded in the late 17th century to become the present mansion, Stair House , which served as their ancestral home. A church was built in Stair in 1706. Today's neo-Gothic configured Stair Parish Church dates back to the 1864th
traffic
Stair is located on the B730, which is of little importance in terms of traffic today. It crosses the Ayr via the Stair Bridge , built in 1745 , which was of greater importance in the past. Within ten kilometers, the A70 ( Edinburgh- Ayr), the A76 (Kilmarnock- Dumfries ) and the A77 ( Glasgow - Portpatrick ) are three national trunk roads .
