Stargarder Land has been the name of a wine- growing region in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that has been determined by wine law since January 1, 2005 .

In the area of the historical Stargard rulership , it is the northernmost closed wine-growing area in Germany with the wine-growing locations in Rattey and Burg Stargard and is allowed to grow German wines with a protected geographical indication (formerly table wine , changed by the EU wine law change on August 1, 2009). Territorially, it corresponds to the Mecklenburg Landwein wine region . This means that the country wine of the region is marketed under the name Mecklenburg country wine . The cultivation area is only 5.0  haof which 4.75 ha are in Rattey Castle and 0.25 ha in Stargard Castle. It is therefore much smaller than any other German wine-growing region. Rattey Castle is the largest North German winery with almost 5 hectares and is one of four East German castle wineries.

In Mecklenburg there is an old tradition in viticulture, which was primarily founded by Cistercian monks in the 13th century. In Schwerin , Güstrow and Neukloster , vines were already cultivated in the 13th century. Stargard Castle is the place in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania where the longest continuous viticulture has been practiced, namely from 1508 to the middle of the 19th century and again since 2002. Commercial viticulture was only stopped in 1855 when the Crivitz vineyard near Schwerin was cleared.

The area is planted with a total of around 21,000 vines of the Regent , Phoenix , Solaris , Ortega , Müller-Thurgau and Elbling varieties . The 4.75 hectare vineyards in Rattey are looked after by the Association of Private Vintners in Rattey, which was founded on April 1, 1999 and has 520 members (September 2006), which also organizes a wine festival and the election of a wine queen. The smaller vineyard area of 0.25 hectares in Stargard Castle , where there was viticulture from 1508 to the end of the 18th century, is looked after by a local winegrowers' association with 25 members.

Part of the 2013 vintage was matured for the first time at Schloss Rattey in spring 2014 in oak barrels with a volume of 500 liters. Since the German wine law does not provide for barrel storage for country wine , the white and red Mecklenburg country wine came on the market in December under the protected brand name Eikspon .

The wine law basis for the establishment of the wine-growing region is based on the 11th ordinance amending the Wine Ordinance of March 4, 2004, which was passed after the approval of the Federal Council at the meeting on February 13, 2004.
