Stargirl is an American science fiction - television series based on the eponymous character from DC Comics -based and on the streaming platform since May 18, 2020 DC Universe appears. The series was developed by Geoff Johns , creator of Stargirl, with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter and is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Television.

On July 6th, the broadcaster The CW extended the series for a second season, where the first broadcast will also take place.

In June 2018, Geoff Johns retired as Chief Creator Officer of DC Entertainment , where he was most recently responsible for the films in the DC Extended Universe . In the following month, on July 19, 2018, it was announced that Johns would instead produce the series Stargirl for the streaming portal DC Universe and also write the script for it. Together with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, Johns forms the executive producer team. It was also announced that the first season should include 13 episodes and the companies Warner Bros. Televisio , Johns' Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions are the responsible production companies. In addition to Stargirl , Berlanti Productions also produces the Arrowverse series based on characters from the DC Universe as well as the Titans and Doom Patrol series for DC Universe .

The title role Stargirl aka Courtney Whitmore was cast with Brec Bassinger , as announced in September 2019. The cast of numerous other characters was announced by the beginning of 2019, so that filming began no later than March 14, 2019 in Marietta , Georgia . The shooting took place in Atlanta due to tax incentives . Also in March 2019 it was announced that Stargirl should appear in early 2020. In November 2019 it was announced that the series would also be broadcast on The CW .
