Stefan Ilsanker (Luge Rider)

Stefan Ilsanker (born July 6, 1965 in Berchtesgaden ) is a former German luge athlete . He celebrated international success in the two-seater alongside Georg Hackl in the 1980s.

Stefan Ilsanker started for the Berchtesgaden toboggan club . In the 1985/86 season Hackl / Ilsanker took third place in the overall World Cup. In the following season they came second behind Thomas Schwab and Wolfgang Staudinger . At the world championships in Igls they won the silver medal behind the doubles Jörg Hoffmann and Jochen Pietzsch from the GDR. Also in the 1987/88 season Hackl / Ilsanker, now behind Yevgeny Belousov and Alexander Beljukow, came second in the overall World Cup. The season highlight was the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , where they just missed a medal in fourth place. The Hackl / Ilsanker doubles had one last successful season in 1989/90. In the overall World Cup they came in third place, in the team competition of the European Championships in 1990 they won the silver medal in the team competition with Johannes Schettel , Jana Bode and Margit Paar behind the team from the GDR.

Nationally, Thomas Schwab and Wolfgang Staudinger were Stefan Ilsanker's and Georg Hackl's biggest competitors. While Schwab / Staudinger performed better several times in international races, Hackl / Ilsanker were able to achieve the greater successes at the national German level. In 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1990 the doubles won the German championship title.
