Steffen Stormo Stegavik (born November 30, 1983 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian handball player . Stegavik is mostly used on the middle back .

Career

The 1.83 m tall and 85 kg heavy right-hander played handball and soccer until he was 18, before he decided to go indoor sports. After stints at SK Rapp and Malvik HK, he was under contract with the Norwegian club Heimdal HK until 2007. When the club had to file for bankruptcy, the top scorer of the Postenligaen moved to league rivals Elverum Håndball . After he had thrown Elverum as the top scorer again to the championship, he signed with Drammen HK , where he should replace Glenn Solberg . After only one season he returned to Elverum and won the 2010 Cup and the championship titles in 2012 and 2013. In the 2010/11 European Cup Winners' Cup , he failed in the quarter-finals at VfL Gummersbach and with 45 goals was fourth best scorer in the competition behind three finalists. From 2013 he ran for the second division Kolstad IL to be closer to his wife. For the 2014/15 season both moved to Romania to HC Minaur Baia Mare. With Baia Mare he won the championship in 2015. In summer 2015 he joined Elverum Håndball. With Elverum he won the Norwegian championship in 2016. He then left Elverum and moved to Macedonia, where his wife played. After Stegavik couldn't find a new club in Macedonia, he joined the Norwegian second division club Nærbø IL in November 2016.

Steffen Stegavik made his debut in the Norwegian national team on July 28, 2004 against Croatia . He was in the extended squad for the 2007 World Cup and the 2010 European Championship . The playmaker scored 86 goals in 42 international matches.

In the summer of 2011, Stegavik briefly returned to the football field when his former club Strindheim IL in the Oddsenligaen (3rd division) was plagued by injuries.
