Shim Suk-hee ( kor. 심석희 ; born January 30, 1997 in Gangneung ) is a South Korean short tracker .

Career

Shim started the short track sport at the age of seven. At the Junior World Championships in 2012 , she won five gold medals and one bronze medal. Also in 2012 she won the two gold medals in the individual competitions over 500 m and 1000 m at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck . She also won the bronze medal with the relay. She made her World Cup debut on October 20, 2012 in Calgary when she won the 1500m. In the further course of the season she achieved 12 podium finishes in the World Cup, nine of which were wins. Shim won three medals at the 2013 World Championships . At the end of the season she took first place in the 1500 m World Cup. In the 2013/14 season she won the World Cup nine times, came second and third. She also won the World Cup over 1000 m and 1500 m. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she won over 3000 m gold, over 1500 m silver and over 1000 m bronze with the relay. She won four gold medals at the 2014 World Cup in Montreal .

In the 2014/15 season, Shim reached 11 podiums in the World Cup, six of which were first. At the 2015 World Championships in Moscow , she won bronze in the all-around event, silver over 1500 m and 3000 m and gold in the relay. In the World Cup over 1500 m she came in second place and over 1000 m in first place. In the following season she won eight World Cups, four of them in singles. In addition, she achieved second place twice and third place once and thus achieved third place in the overall World Cup over 1000 m and second place over 1500 m. At the season highlight of the 2016 World Championships in Seoul , she won the gold medal with the relay. In the 2016/17 season she won in Calgary , Salt Lake City , Shanghai and Gangneung over 1500 m and with the relay. In addition, she was second in Calgary over 1000 m and third in Gangneung over 1000 m. She won the 1500 m World Cup for the third time and was eighth in the 1000 m World Cup. At the Winter Asian Games 2017 in Sapporo , she won the silver medal over 1500 m and the gold medal over 1000 m and with the relay. In March 2017 she won the bronze medal and the gold medal over 3000 m at the world championships in Rotterdam in the all- around event and over 1500 m. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, she triumphed in Budapest with the relay and also came third over 500 m. In Dordrecht she won over 1000 m and took third place over 1500 m and second place with the relay. In November 2017 she won the 1500 m and relay in Shanghai and came second in the 1500 m and third with the relay in Seoul. She finally achieved third place in the World Cup over 1000 m and second place in the World Cup over 1500 m. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , Suk-hee won the gold medal with the 3000 m relay. In March 2018, at the World Championships in Montreal , she won the silver medal in the all- around event and over 1500 m and the gold medal over 1000 m and relay.

In the 2018/19 season, Shim finished second in Calgary with the relay and in Almaty with the relay and the mixed relay. At the 2019 World Championships in Sofia , she won the gold medal with the relay. In the all-around competition, she achieved 39th place there.
