Choi Min-jeong (born September 9, 1998 ) is a South Korean short tracker .

Career

Choi first appeared internationally in March 2014 at the Junior World Championships in Erzurum . There she won the bronze medal in the 1500 m superfinal and in the all-around event, the silver medal over 1500 m and the gold medal over 1000 m and with the relay. She ran her first World Cup races in Salt Lake City at the beginning of the 2014/15 season . There she finished second over 1000 m and won her first World Cup victory with the relay. In the further course of the season she won seven other World Cup races and achieved a second place. At the 2015 Short Track World Championships in Moscow , she won the bronze medal over 1500 m and the gold medal over 1000 m, 3000 m, in the all-around event and with the relay. She finished the season in third place in the World Cup over 1500 m and first place in the World Cup over 1000 m. At the beginning of the following season she won in Montreal over 1000 m and with the relay and also took second place in the second race over 1000 m. At the following World Cup station in Toronto , she triumphed over 500 m, 1500 m and with the relay. Also at the World Cup in Nagoya in December 2016 she won over 1000 m, 1500 m and with the relay and in Shanghai over 1500 m and with the relay. At the season highlight of the 2016 Short Track World Championships in Seoul , she won the silver medal in the 1500 m and the gold medal in the 1000 m, in the all-around and with the relay. At the end of the season she took second and first place over 1500 m in Dresden and second place over 500 m and 1000 m in Dordrecht . She won the World Cup over 1000 m and 1500 m and finished fourth in the World Cup over 500 m.

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Choi won the 1000 m and relay in Calgary and also finished second in the 1500 m. In Salt Lake City , she won the 1,500 m and with the relay and took second place in the 500 m. In December 2016 she triumphed in Shanghai over 1000 m and with the relay and in Gangneung over 500 m and with the relay. She also came in second place over 500 m in Shanghai and second place over 1000 m in Gangneung. At the 2017 Short Track World Championships in Rotterdam , she finished in four top ten in the individual races and sixth in the all-around event. In February 2017 she won medals in all competitions at the Winter Asian Games in Sapporo (the bronze medal over 500 m, the silver medal over 1000 m and the gold medal over 1500 m and with the relay). She finished the season in seventh place in the 1500 m World Cup, fifth in the 500 m World Cup and second in the 1000 m World Cup. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, she won all world cup races in Budapest (over 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m and with the relay). This was followed by four victories, three second and one third place and thus won the World Cup over 1500 m. In the World Cup over 500 m and over 1000 m she reached second place. At the highlight of the season, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she won the 1500 m and the gold medal with the relay. In March 2018 she won the gold medal at the world championships in Montreal over 500 m, 1500 m, 3000 m, in all-around and with the relay.

In the 2018/19 season, Choi won the World Cup twice over 1500 m and once with the relay. In addition, she achieved second place three times with the relay and once over 1000 m and once third place with the mixed relay. She reached third place in the World Cup over 1500 m. At the 2019 World Championships in Sofia , she won the silver medal in the all-around, over 1000 m and over 3000 m and the gold medal over 1500 m and with the relay. In the following season she triumphed in Dresden over 1500 m and in Nagoya with the mixed relay. In addition, she won second place with the relay in Salt Lake City and over 1500 m in Shanghai and thus reached fourth place in the World Cup over 1500 m. At the Four Continents Championships in Montreal in 2020 , she won gold in the 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m, with the relay and in the all-around competition.
