Stephan Bröchler

Stephan Bröchler (* 1962 ) is a German political scientist and university professor . His research focus is on the investigation of the government system of the Federal Republic of Germany and comparative government theory . Since October 2019 Bröchler has been the professor for "Domestic Policy of the Federal Republic of Germany" at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

Stephan Bröchler studied at the Universities of Cologne , Duisburg and Konstanz and first received his diploma in administrative science in Konstanz and then obtained his doctorate there in 1992. His dissertation is entitled “The powerlessness of vision. Theory and Practice of Socially Responsible Technology Design in North Rhine-Westphalia ” and was awarded the grade“ magna cum laude ”.

In 2003 Bröchler received his Venia Legendi for Politics and Public Administration from the Hagen Open University . His habilitation thesis is entitled “The technique of government. An analysis of institutional changes in the Federal Chancellery in Germany and Austria as well as the Federal Chancellery in Switzerland through the use of modern information and communication technology ” . From 2008 to 2009 he took on his first substitute professorship in “Comparative Political Science” in Hagen, which was previously held by Hans-Joachim Lauth . From 2009 to 2012 he held a substitute professorship at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , 2014 to 2015 at the Technical University of Darmstadt , 2018 at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , and from 2018 to 2019 at the Martin Luther University in Halle an der Saale and since October 2019 at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Stephan Bröchler has published several books. Several times with Hans-Joachim Lauth and Julia von Blumenthal .

In addition to his university work, Bröchler is editor and head of department for reviews of the journal for comparative political science . He is an expert for the editor-in-chief of ZDF and country expert for Germany at Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem), a democracy index based on expert assessments. In addition, Bröchler is the spokesman for the section “System of Government and Governance in the Federal Republic of Germany” at the German Association for Political Science .
