Stephan Koren (Manager)

Stephan Koren , also Stefan Koren , (born December 14, 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian bank manager . From 2000 to 2005 he was General Director of Österreichische Postsparkasse and from 2005 to 2008 Deputy General Director of BAWAG PSK. In July 2012 he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Österreichische Volksbanken-Aktiengesellschaft .

Life

Training and professional activity

Stephan Koren is the son of the former Finance Minister Stephan Koren and brother of the Austrian bank manager Elisabeth Bleyleben-Koren . He grew up in Vienna, where he studied economics at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at the University of Vienna from 1977 to 1981 after graduating from school . After graduating in 1981, he was contract assistant at the local Institute for Economic Theory and Policy from 1982 to 1987 , during which time he completed his doctorate and received his doctorate in 1984. During this time, he also worked for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC

From 1988 to 1991 Koren worked as an economic policy advisor in the federal management of the Austrian Economic Association and from 1992 he held various cabinet functions in the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs . In 1997 he became an economic and financial adviser to the Association of Austrian Industrialists .

His work as a bank manager began at BAWAG in 1998 , where he was ultimately a director with general power of attorney with responsibility for public finance and investment promotion .

From 2000 until the merger of the Österreichische Postsparkasse with BAWAG in 2005, he was General Director of PSK and then until April 2011 initially a member of the Board of Management and from 2008 Deputy General Director of BAWAG PSK

At the request of Finance Minister Maria Fekter , he was appointed General Director of the partially nationalized Österreichische Volksbanken-Aktiengesellschaft on July 17, 2012 .

Supervisory board and advisory board functions

In addition to his work at BAWAG and PSK a. a. as a member of the supervisory board or advisory board of Bausparkasse Wüstenrot , Wiener Stadtwerke Holding , Austria Wirtschaftsservice Gesellschaft , Omnimedia Werbegesellschaft, Telekom Austria and ÖIAG . Until his appointment as General Director of ÖVAG, he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of FIMBAG . In December 2012 he was appointed to the University Council of the Vienna University of Economics and Business .

In August 2018 he was appointed a member of the General Council of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank .

Stephan Koren is married. The couple live in Vienna and have two children.
