Stephan Mattner

Stephan Mattner (born November 5, 1974 in Herne ) is a German jazz musician ( saxophone , flute , clarinets ) and composer .

Mattner completed a classical saxophone degree from 1995 to 1999 at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold (Dortmund department). After graduating, he continued his studies between 1999 and 2002 at the Folkwang University in Essen with Matthias Nadolny , Hugo Read and Wollie Kaiser . He was a member of the JugendJazzOrchester NRW ; In 2002 he was a semi-finalist in the international saxophone competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival . He worked with Laia Genc , the WDR Big Band Cologne and the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra ; he was also a member of Christina Fuchs' Soundscapes Orchestra . and the Thonline Orchestra by Caroline Thon ( Panta Rei , 2011). In 2003 Mattner and his quartet (with bassist Stefan Werni , drummer Michael Peters and pianist Jona Kümper) presented their first own album Mattnerhorn (NRW Jazz). In 2009 the album Syntax , recorded in the Cologne Loft with Jürgen Friedrich , Alex Morsey and Christian Thomé , was released on Konnex Records .

From 2001 Mattner taught saxophone at the University of Dortmund, since 2006 he has been teaching saxophone at the University of Siegen .
