Stephan Morgenstern

Stephan Morgenstern (* 1951 in Bautzen ) is a German photographer .

Life

Stephan Morgenstern was born in Bautzen in 1951. At the age of 17 he embarked on a three-month trip to Persia. Equipped with a camera, he started his visual work here. He studied with Otto Steinert at the Folkwang School in Essen . In 1977 he applied to Steinert in Essen, who certified the budding photographer as having "... extraordinary artistic" talent. After completing his studies, he mainly photographed for the Frankfurter Rundschau . After the fall of the Berlin Wall, he went to Leipzig from Frankfurt am Main on behalf of the news magazine Der Spiegel . During these two years photos of East German soul landscapes were created.

He also made reports for Die Zeit , Merian and Brigitte . In 2008, Morgenstern published an illustrated book called Frankfurt Inside with Klaus Klemp and Ulrich Mattner, which was published by Kehrer Verlag . The photographs shown therein offer insights into Frankfurt banking life. In 2016 he was awarded the Grimme Online Award for the multimedia report "Trappeto-Solingen-Trappeto" .

He lives as a freelance photographer in Frankfurt am Main.
